Nelson draws most of her inspiration from the natural world, both living and non-living.

She currently resides in San Francisco and works as an independent media consultant and freelance artist. Nelson earned a Bachelors degree in Fine Art and a minor in history from Carnegie Mellon University in 2002, which included coursework at Kuvataideakatemia in Helsinki, Finland, and Lorenzo de' Medici in Florence, Italy. Nelson worked in film development and talent management in Los Angeles for four years and completed a Masters degree in Business Administration from the University of Michigan in 2008. Her hobbies include traveling, boating, film, television, and figure skating.
